I grew up in Dallas, Tx, where it is almost always too warm for knitting, but I do it anyway. I learned to knit when I was little and got really passionate about it when I started college at UT Austin. That’s where I first had the idea for GingerKnitz Handmades. I realized that I should be doing what I enjoyed, not what I was “supposed” to do. It took me a little while before I actually tried my hand at opening a shop. I put absolutely no effort into it. My pictures were terrible and I only had 5 or 6 items up. It was awful! In late 2011, I tried again. I am constantly improving on different aspects of the shop and adding new items. I’m always trying to learn something new about what I do and how to be better. I love what I’m doing and am so glad to be able to share that with others.
GingerKnitz carries custom and ready-made slouchy beanies, funky hipster cat hats, and delicate lace-y crocheted earrings, among other items. I have items for babies, kids, teens and adults. I try to have something for everyone. Customization is a big deal for me. The majority of my items are customizable by color, and I always take custom sizing requests. And I love custom orders. Some of my more popular items started off as custom orders, like my Chunky Cat Ears Hat. I always say if you see something you like, but wish it were a little different, don’t hesitate to ask!
