End of Summer reading list

by - 9/02/2013

With Fall here (Well technically not here as in here in LA. It still feels like summer, and will probably still feel like summer until October) I wanted to share with my readers some books I've been enjoying lately. I have to admit some of these books were amazing and some were so-so. I still have 4 more books to finish up on, and they should be a breeze, because I've gotten a lot of the books that I've really wanted to read out of the way. So here it goes:
readinglist1
Legend By Marie Lu: This book is amazing for anyone who loves Dystopian based books. This book centers around Daniel aka Day and June. While the corrupt government is out killing people with a contained plague, June and Day find themselves surrounded by lies, and traitors. This book is set in the future, where there are 3 different governments fighting for control. The Republic, the colonies, and the patriots.

Monument 14 By Emmy Laybourne: I've read the second book as well as this book. That was one of my 9 books I wanted to read. This book doesn't disappoint. It's set in 2024, and while everyone has a tablet, it looks as if the world won't be able to hold itself together, as a super volcano erupts, causing catastrophe beyond what anybody could imagine. While 14 kids are scared out of their minds, and locked in a superstore (think walmart). While this is going on a company develops a deadly toxic air borne virus that can turn even the tamest person into a monster that will rip you to pieces.

The 5th Wave By Rick Yancey: This is the most recent book I finished. This book had everything in it. humor, romance, death, and war. What would happen if an alien ship landed in orbit around our planet? What if the first wave killed billions of people? And then came the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and finally the 5th wave? Cassie's life has been turned upside down by these creatures they can't see. But she isn't stupid. She figures out quick that these aliens are walking around like any regular human being. They are us. We are them. And it only gets harder, as she meets Evan Walker. The only person who can save her little brother from the monsters in the sky. But can she trust Evan? Who might just be one of the others? This book was epic in every way, because it was told from four different perspectives.
readinglist2
The Testing By Joelle Charbonneau: This book is eerily similar to the hunger games. Except that as opposed to one champion, there are 20. While I thought this book was okay. I really wanted to finish up this book quickly, because the plot just seemed a little too close to The Hunger Games. I wouldn't say this book was amazing, and I don't think I'm going to read the second book in the series.

Awaken By Meg Cabot: This book was okay for what it was. It's about a girl who gets taken to the underworld with John (Think Persephone and Hades from greek mythology). A brooding handsomely guy who has a dark side. I think it would have been better to read the books in order, and within a couple of weeks, as opposed to stretched out over 3 years. Because to be honest, I forgot about a lot of the little stuff that happened in this book.

Scorpion Shards By Neal Shusterman: This book was a quick read for me. I think it was probably because I read it on my computer in Ebook format. I also read the other two books in the series. While I do really enjoy a book when people have powers, like superhuman powers, I felt like this book was written in the 1990's. Which technically it was, but I didn't like the way the kids were running around, without any supervision from their parents.

I'm certain you can tell by now that I love dystopian based books. What kind of books do you like reading? Any recommendations?

  11. I totally agree with you on legend, amazing, have you read prodigy, yet? Cause that book did not disappoint compared to Legend

Monument 14: Sounds good , but since I just had to read Lord of the flies for school, it kind sounds like a futuristic version, IDK I guess didn't notice it before but I think a lot of books have a LOTF theme

The 5 wave: Sounds like my kind of book, but when I read the preview thing on goodreads it didn't sound as good, but adding this to my to-reads list

Awaken: Okay so I read the first book of this series and my friend read the first and second and she told me the second was worst then the first. From my stand point I though the first one was a bit slow but fast at the same point so your review of Awaken sound pretty much right, ugh I really liked Meg Cabot but I feel like she took the wrong path for theses books

    Recommend:

Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout (Amazing with more romance then sci-fi, and not so dystopian)

Infernal Devices y Cassandra Clare (Even though this is dystopian it's an amazing sieres)

Shatter Me by Tahereh mafi (So good)

    Cinder by Marrisa Meyer

Darkest Minds by Alexader Bracken (Ahh this is so good too)

For darkness shows the stars by Diana Peterfreund (This book is so good for a non-series)

Unspoken by Sarah Rees Brennan (THis is so good but not a dystopian)

    HOpe you like these recommendations

P.S. if you like recommendations you should get a goodreads account!

P.S.S. I love your blog, it has books and fashion, my 2 favorite things in the world, along with lemonade:D
